On The Plot This Week!

On the plot this week, the beans remain a tale of two halves! The runner beans are romping away and my purple runner beans are starting to flower.  Minimal slug damage though, so things are looking up...

My youngest daughter made a motivational booklet at school and I am using it to help me think positive and carry on gardening!

The soft fruit is in, the nets are off and now it is the turn of the birds :) Soft fruit is so easy to freeze and store for later. Redcurrants, blackcurrants and gooseberries require no cooking, prior to freezing, so you can freeze whole fruit, prepped or not.  Remember to make a note on your freezer bag, if they need washing and or topping and tailing later!

We've been baking to celebrate the end of school and sent a batch in for the staff to have a bun with their cuppa on their last day! Find the Redcurrant Muffin Recipe here. You can use blueberries if you prefer.  My Fruit Fool Recipe link is here, which is great for soft fruit.  Fruit fool is a cool dessert, perfect for the hot weather.

The cucamelons, pumpkins and squash are growing, slowly... I put them in a bit late, but if the weather takes off, they might amount to something.  The sweetcorn and courgettes suffered a setback when planted out, but are starting to pick up, now. The peas are still going strong and the apples are looking fantastic!  It could be a bumper year for apples on the plot...

Been too busy with school-trips (and that's just me!) and end-of-term stuff to do much planting, so hopefully next week there will be more progress on the plot.

Happy weekend everyone and thank you for stopping by to read my blog.
