It's All Happening on the Plot!

This week, the beans have come to an abrupt halt.  My youngest has enjoyed picking them with her friends and we finally had enough to give away! I am harvesting beetroot and patty pan now, making vegetable soup and River Cottage's divine Chocolate Beetroot Brownies.

The sweetcorn are growing big, but they're not not ripe yet ...

I've been chopping off pumpkin leaves, flowers and shoots, to let in the light and help the pumpkins ripen.  I've also raised the pumpkins off the ground to prevent them rotting. I used a couple of planks and took the opportunity to weed between the plants to aid air-flow.

I am leaving them out as long as possible, but they need to be brought in before the frosts!

I've been baking bread again, a malted loaf to eat and a batch of wholemeal rolls, frozen to eat later. I like serving them with home-made soup. I microwave them straight from the freezer for 30 seconds, which defrosts and warms them up at the same time.

My soup recipe was similar to this Autumn Vegetable Soup.  Enjoy!

My Asters are looking glorious, so I took a picture to show you.
Have a good week and thank you for visiting my blog :)
