Quick and Delicious Spaghetti Bolognese: So Easy Your Teenager Can Make it!

This recipe is so easy that my teenager makes it regularly for dinner!


 Ingredients
500g Minced beef
400g  Can of tomatoes or passata
2tbsp Tomato puree
3 Onions
5 Mushrooms
1 Garlic clove
1 tsp Dried mixed herbs
1 Vegetable or beef stock cube
200mls boiling water
Cooking oil
Salt and pepper
75-100g Spaghetti (per person)

Equipment: 1 frying pan, 1 large pan, chopping board, knives, wooden spoons and a jug.


Method
  • Chop the onions and garlic.  Add a drop of oil to the frying pan and heat the pan on a medium heat. Cook until tender. Add the meat and cook on a medium heat.
  • Chop the mushrooms and add to the frying pan.  Continue cooking over a medium heat.
  • Make the stock using 200ml of water and the stock cube.  Add the stock, herbs, tomato puree and the tomatoes to the pan.  
  • Simmer for 10 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.  Season to taste.  Whilst it is simmering, prepare the spaghetti according to the instructions.

Tips
  • Add vegetables to the mix eg: 2 chopped or grated carrots or 2 celery sticks. 
  • Add Worcestershire Sauce or Marmite to enhance the flavour. 
  • Freeze in plastic take-away tubs in handy portions for healthy microwave dinners.
Serve with spaghetti, Parmesan cheese and vegetables of your choice.
